In Visage of Death, the characters are called upon for help by a desperate faun, Thistlecap Whisperleaf. The faun has surveyed a war-band of orcs in Grimgrove forest attempting an obscure ritual by a shunned, ruined temple. He heard the chieftain say they needed living sacrifices. The orcs marched south toward a small hamlet named Gray Hollow Mill. The party must defend the settlement from attacks.
In the captain’s company, the party raids the market and confronts the criminals. The brigands stayed in the market to make sure the hanging corpse stayed there all day. Later, the characters track the criminals to their base by the docks. The criminal guild’s leader is a cruel man on a quest for vengeance. In this adventure, the criminal’s past is revealed; he has plenty of reasons to have a grudge against the nobles. Alas, is it fair or justifiable to slay them in cold blood?
This adventure has been designed for Shadowdark RPG through their 3rd party license. The system is meant to be accessible to OSR players and modern players alike. Adapting the material to 5e or other systems should not be difficult.
