Chapter 6 – Old Bonegrinder

The GUIDE index for Curse of Strahd and other related articles can be found here ! This old mill is located near the main road that leads to the Town of Vallaki. Adventurers will see the mill from the road and might wish to explore it, especially since they might have found the deed to the mill in the Death House a while back. The deed leaves the mill in possession of Thornboldt and Rosavalda Durst. Who are dead and probably resting in peace. The players might infer that, since they hold the deed to the mill, they are the owners now. Regardless of their interpretation of this fact, the mill is now home to three witches, Morgantha, Bella and Offalia. Morgantha is the mother of the other two. Together they form a Coven, which gives the three of them more magical power. These witches are in the business of…

Map 84 – Swiftcloud

DON’T FORGET TO VISIT OUR MAP INDEX AND OUR PATREON FUNDING PAGE ! Prospect Denizens of the Tower ! we close the month with a maritime theme. This is Swiftcloud a fast three-masts ship with an array of gunpowder powered weapons.   A very long time ago when I wasn’t working with color illustrations yet, I drew a ship plan and got so much critique online due to my poor understanding of ships that I didn’t drew one again until now. I promise past mistakes are fixed now, although a person with sea experience will surely still find some oddities with this, I believe it’s perfect for a fantasy setting or a sea-faring one-shot. I must thank everyone who joined this month for pitching in for this noble cause of creating more and more RPG ready illustrations. I truly believe the future of RPG gaming and its diversity sits directly in small…

He was a respected member of the magic council and many wanted to be pupils of him. As a performer of magic he was called as usual to accompany a group of soldiers to help rid a small town from bandits. Overnight the town was taken over by a group of bandits and sellswords. The town guard was overwhelmed in minutes. Morning came and they had men on the walls, gates closed. Chapter 5 – The Town of Vallaki

The GUIDE index for Curse of Strahd and other related articles can be found here ! This is pivotal point in the Curse of Strahd Module. After the Village of Barovia, this is the first settlement the party will visit. They might have heard that the town is secured and walled. That people can prosper there and that the Burgomaster is in a constant fight against Strahd’s evil. However nothing is farthest from the truth. In reality, Vallaki is a bomb about to explode, and the adventurers cannot stop it. How and when it blows are the only factors that could be managed to work differently, but the conflict will burn down the city to its core. This is real because of the current political situation in Vallaki, and the different powers at play. No DM should feel constrained to blow the fuse, this settlement was written in this way so…

Map 82 – Family Crypt

DON’T FORGET TO VISIT OUR MAP INDEX AND OUR PATREON FUNDING PAGE ! It is known that evil deeds and sins are passed down from father to son, generation after generation. The malignant disposition of our ancestors in some way defines us, it defines the bloodline. Thus it is said that one must be cleansed and worthy of others, else our own darkness will go down to our kin. Cursed is the kin slayer as going against your own blood is the foulest of mistakes. This was Hernan Dicordo’s mistake. He was evil, there’s no doubt there, but very few know how many of his close relatives were either killed by him or ordered killed. He felt no remorse and did all this to appropriate lands and assets that belonged to others. He was really careful and though there were suspicions, mostly everyone though the family was cursed with misfortune. His…

Map 81 – The Arcane Tablet

DON’T FORGET TO VISIT OUR MAP INDEX AND OUR PATREON FUNDING PAGE ! If adventurers ever visit this place, it is to access the arcane secrets hidden in the underground complex.  Few know that a secret to great magical power is encrypted in a stone tablet inside the complex. If the secret of the tablet ever comes to the wrong hands, a lot would be at stake. How big is the secret or the power is up to you to decide. Good day towerers and I’m glad to announce I created this illustration with the help of some architecture software to create the 3D view map. It looks like isometric but it really isn’t. If you find it amusing or useful, let me know in a comment, I plan on using stuff like this in the near future too. Good day everyone and thanks for your support.

Chapter 4 – Castle Ravenloft

The GUIDE index for Curse of Strahd and other related articles can be found here ! Castle Ravenloft is the biggest chapter in the book. With over 40 pages describing the different 88 areas inside, it is a daunting task to get ready for. It’s important to have in mind that it is unlikely that the castle will be explored completely. A party might have some exploration in mind or a feeling of curiosity, but in reality, Castle Ravenloft is a place where the party will run out of resources sooner or later, and they most probably won’t long rest inside the castle. Additionally, Castle Ravenloft is not a dungeon crawl to visit all in one go. The party will have to come and go several times during the course of the module. The better approach to Castle Ravenloft comes from the player’s intentions for visiting it. It is improbable…

Strahd’s Invitation

The GUIDE index for Curse of Strahd and other related articles can be found here ! Strahd’s Invitation There is very interesting moment in the Curse of Strahd module that is not given enough attention in the module, and this is the invitation to Ravenloft. A fine dinner with the lord of the land. Strahd writes the letter himself and has one of his minions deliver it to the adventurers, expecting them to come. This is one of the module’s peaks. Depending on the case this could be the first time the adventurers encounter Strahd, or it could come after a few encounters with him also. It is a great opportunity to build upon this villain’s charisma and personality. The moment to start building a pact of enmity between the PCs and your BBEG. Let’s discuss some particularities about this part of the adventure.   What’s a good timing? Curse…
