Map 69 – Avariel Complex

DON’T FORGET TO VISIT OUR MAP INDEX AND OUR PATREON FUNDING PAGE ! This illustrations portrays an underground complex of a vertical style. The different levels are not connected through stairs, or elevators of any kind, the reason for this is because the place was originally built by a race of flying creatures. My suggestion is to use Avariel, which are a kind of winged elves from the Forgotten Realms setting. Alternatively, any winged species could have built the place, Aarocka, Angels, Dragonkind or similar. Regardless of the original builders, this place is really old and it could be the home of really different creatures. Because of the vertical nature of the construction, any creature that has fly or climb speed is a good candidate for this. The purpose of the complex is revealed when visiting the Burial Chamber, an important person’s remains lay here for eternity. Maybe an important treasure…

Map 67 – Mushroom Circles

DON’T FORGET TO VISIT OUR MAP INDEX AND OUR PATREON FUNDING PAGE ! There are myths and legends about fey and faeries traveling far distances in a magical way. Tales talk about faeries walking among overgrowths and fungi patches, and then, when no one is watching, they suddenly disappear. Their vague silhouettes against the moonlight vanish, in an instant they are gone. Common folk believe this ability is innate to fairies but there is nothing farther from the truth. There is a magical form of traveling that is only accessible to those with the forgotten lore of the myconid lords. A powerful magic that comes in the form of power words, ancient incantations that resonate with the very energy of fungi life. All forms of fungi are interconnected in a web of strands that cannot be seen in the material world. These connections are like shortcuts that exist throughout the feywild…

Map 66 – Road Encounter

DON’T FORGET TO VISIT OUR MAP INDEX AND OUR PATREON FUNDING PAGE ! This illustration shows a road where an attack occurred. There is a small camp with one tent and fire. There are some wooden boxes and barrels around. South of the tent, there’s an overturned horse cart, the horse is dead by arrow wounds. Let’s explore four different ways of using an encounter like this. Scenario # 1 – Sudden Ambush The group of adventurers are traveling on a lonely road when they are ambushed by a group of savage creatures. They could be orcs, gnolls, mountain barbarians, or similar enemies. First thing they do is shoot the horse to take away the easiest escape from the travelers. The horse jumps while dying and overturns the car, along with the travelers. The PCs are now on the ground, somewhat shielded by the cart, while they await for their attackers.…

Map 64 – Island Camp

DON’T FORGET TO VISIT OUR MAP INDEX AND OUR PATREON FUNDING PAGE ! The misunderstood kuo-toa are often taken at face value, malformed fish folk who worship obscure deities and otherworldly entities. They are feared by sailors for often raiding boats and killing or sacrificing anyone they find. Other kuo-toa trick sea men into dangerous parts of the sea and have been known to manipulate the weather to capsize ships and sack them. Some of them have tried, not very successfully, to earn an honest life, serving as guides and sailors. However they will always be considered monstrous by the people who man boats and ships. Glooplukeen, a tricky kuo-toa has forged an alliance with a pirate captain. The pirate is known as Braidbeard. None of them fully trusts the other one, but they have reached a level of trust and understanding. One of the first mates is Hareld, he speaks…

Map 63 – Bewitched Altar

DON’T FORGET TO VISIT OUR MAP INDEX AND OUR PATREON FUNDING PAGE ! The local townspeaker Johnetten Darko is suddenly very worried about the recent disappearances of farmers and cattle. The small town is not big and will not sustain these losses much longer. What’s more worrying is that a pair of representatives from the guard, one of them a knight, offered to look into the matter just the day before. They parted to the nearby forest accompanied by one farmer and one hunter, but, as of now, there is no sign of them. The farmer’s wife in particular, has gathered a few of the other families affected by these disappearances and are planning something. They will probably not go ahead and look for them, but, shall the decide to abandon town to flee to a bigger and better protected settlement, that could mean the near death of this town, since…

Map 62 – Swamp Exploration

DON’T FORGET TO VISIT OUR MAP INDEX AND OUR PATREON FUNDING PAGE ! We had no clue what we were getting into. When we accepted Lord Flegters job, it seemed like a regular exploration-mapping job. We are an experienced group of adventurers. Sometimes we have gotten involved in pretty shady a business, but we’re good with swords, and we have a guy who’s good with them spells. Currently, I’m hiding in a cave in the middle of the swamp, writing this letter. No one will ever read it probably, I have no more fantasies about my own survival. We knew the swamp was dangerous but we weren’t expecting the fish men. Those bloody two legged fish folk came out of the muddy waters and attacked us. They carry spears and shields fancied from turtle shells. We lost a man right there, before the fish men went back into the dark waters.…

Map 61 – Walled Town

DON’T FORGET TO VISIT OUR MAP INDEX AND OUR PATREON FUNDING PAGE ! The small town of Darrelgest has usually been favored by fate. Being placed in the middle of a well traveled trade road. It has become a stopping place of many a traveler and merchant. Regular troops patrols often pass through here, keeping the general area safe. The town’s appointed Speaker is Tomstel Becker, a retired city guard from the local capital. In a struck of luck he helped the right person and was appointed the person in charge of Darrelgest. Not that it requires a particular set of skills to keep the town safe and functioning. The town is protected by a small wooden wall that does its job in protecting it. From time to time bandits or brigands have tried to access the town for pillaging. But no such attempt has been successful thus far. Speaker Becker,…

Out of the Abyss – Chapter 17 – Against the Demon Lords

The GUIDE index is here ! Before we start, you might want to read this recap of the final chapter in one of my games. We have finally gotten this far. It’s the end of the campaign, a wrap up to this awesome long journey. Not many get here, it’s really difficult for some people to have a group steady enough to play over 60-70 hours of D&D. So congratulations to you and your group for getting to the end of Out of the Abyss. This chapter is very open ended. Mostly it depends on decisions taken by the PCs or how you as the DM lead the previous encounters against the demon lords. However you choose to play this chapter, it’s important to have a mega epic fight at the very end; it’s only logical that the final confrontation will be the toughest. However we will see that the book…
